Spooky Roundel

At the heart of Spooky Roundel is the mandala — a circle of pattern radiating from a central point. The word comes from the Sanskrit for “circle”, and mandalas have a long history as sacred geometric designs in Hinduism and Buddhism. Here, that sense of balance and symmetry is given a decidedly Halloween twist, with pumpkins, bats, spiders and little motifs gathered together in playful dance around the centre.

The design began with a piece of fabric by xJudesign. Its wonderful colours immediately suggested Halloween, and after a little time away from designing drums, the idea of turning the circular form into a spooky mandala seemed too good to resist.

Spooky Roundel is a quicky design — a little piece of Halloween fun to stitch, with plenty of detail to discover as the circle unfolds.

The model was worked using Weeks Dye Works threads on xJudesign Frozen Lavender 36ct linen.

The drum top is 89 stitches (w) x 89 stitches (h) and the border of the drum is 308 stitches (w) x 56 stitches (h).
